A gold-medalist post graduate (M.Sc) in Environmental System Management from Department of Applied Geology and Environment Management, Presidency College, Kolkata, Sreemoyee is currently working as a ‘Senior Environmental Specialist’ in Environmental Management Centre since November 2010. With a first-class Bachelor of Science in Zoology Hons., from the University of Calcutta, Sreemoyee has work experience of over 3 years in the areas of Green Productivity, Sustainable Consumption and Production, Environmental Management Systems, Environmental Communication, Training and Capacity Improvement, Environmental Education and Conservation Initiatives in governmental, corporate, academic and social regimes.
Sreemoyee has been awarded the ‘Young India Environmentalist Award 2010’ by Rotary International, India for her outstanding initiatives as a responsible citizen in preventing the atrocities caused to the environment. She had also received the nationally acclaimed ‘Ekoaward 2008-09’ from EMC, Mumbai for her topic of research: ‘Local Preferences of Ethnobotanic Species and its Implications in Environmental Conservation’. Recently, Sreemoyee has also been awarded as ‘Green Saviour-2011’ by Kolkata Police Association for her initiatives in spreading environmental awareness in the community, especially for children.
Before her tenure in EMC, Mumbai, Sreemoyee had been working with Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Kolkata as Executive-Environment Management where she acted as a liaison between the government-industry interfaces and has actively taken up issues that could enhance corporate environmental performance through a sustainable demeanor. She has coordinated several significant projects like ‘E-Waste Inventorisation Study in Kolkata Municipal Areas’ with GTZ-ASEM, CPCB and WBPCB, ‘Disaster Management- Planning for Safe Nation’ with NDMA, NIDM and WBSDMA and ‘Phasing out Carbon Tetrachloride from Indian Industries- A transition to Safer Alternatives” with GTZ-Proklima and Department of Environment, Govt of West Bengal. She has also taken leading roles in organizing globally renowned events like Environment Partnership Summit 2010, Waste Management Conclave 2009, North East Business Summit 2010, Green Biz Quiz 2010 etc amongst many others. She had also been the Chief Editor of a quarterly newsletter called ‘Environment Watch’ that contained the latest concepts and issues regarding environmental management by the corporate sector of India. With the diversified workshops, trainings, awareness campaigns and interactive sessions that she had organized during her tenure in ICC, Kolkata, she had immensely contributed to the overall progress of the environmental concerns of the member industries.
In the course of her work, Sreemoyee has had the opportunity to attend training programs on OHSAS-Risk Management, OHS-Legal Requirements, Emergency Management Practices, Industrial Safety, Accident-Incident Analysis, EHS- Emergency Management and Food Safety & International Standards from certifying organizations like DNV, TUV-NORD and Verde Consulting Pvt Ltd
In her current role at the Environmental Management Centre (December 2010 to present), Sreemoyee has worked on various international research projects including ‘Development of Standardized Criteria for Eco-Products and Service’ with International Green Purchasing Network(IGPN), Japan and Sustainable Product Innovation in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos with UNEP. Her other projects in EMC include: Coordination of Learning Management Systems, Website Management for Ekonnect, Technical, Functional and content development of ‘Eco-bazaar’, an online knowledge portal to promote green purchasing, preparing a compendium on web-functionality of Central and State Pollution Control Boards, assisting in projects like GPNI and GELP on functional grounds, contributing schematically for organizing year-long activities for raising awareness on Environmental and Social considerations for the city of Mumbai. She has also taken up networking activities on the areas of environment management and green purchasing.
Sreemoyee has received the opportunity to teach students (Stds. V-XII) on various concepts of environmental management, as a part of her tenure in Julian Day School, Kolkata as a Guest Faculty. She has also been the Convener of Local Environment Action Group (LEAG) under India Trees Foundation, Kolkata and has successfully pioneered the task of planting 1 lac trees in the city of Kolkata during the year 2010.
